# OpenAI Launches Dots Persistent Agent at DevDay, Targeting Marketing Workflows

*OpenAI introduced Dots at DevDay on September 29, 2026, bringing persistent AI agents to ChatGPT that can carry context across marketing tasks — from research to content drafting — without requiring a new prompt each time conditions change. The launch initially targets ChatGPT Pro, Business Premium and Enterprise users, with one Dot per user. No independent performance data has yet been published.*

OpenAI introduced Dots at its DevDay event on September 29, 2026, extending the persistent-worker model to the ChatGPT platform and positioning it as a tool for teams that need an AI agent to carry work across multiple steps without losing context between sessions.

According to The Verge, Dots can use a browser and more than 4,000 connected apps, carry context into Slack and Microsoft Teams, and send updates or questions while working. The launch is initially limited to ChatGPT Pro, Business Premium and Enterprise users, with one Dot per user.

OpenAI chief executive Sam Altman described the product at DevDay in terms reported by Axios as a significant milestone for AI capability. A member of OpenAI's product team, Holly Li, framed the agents' design in terms of team integration, as reported by Barron's.

The product demonstration at DevDay included a creator workflow covering transcript review, clip identification, show notes preparation and social post drafting. The source article notes that the individual tasks are not new — most marketing teams already use AI for one or two of them — but that Dots is designed to carry the same assignment through steps that typically lose context: turning a transcript into an audience insight, the insight into a content brief, and the brief into drafts, with source material still attached at the review stage.

OpenAI's Dots enters a category that xAI's Grok Bot established when xAI launched it on August 11, 2026. xAI described Grok Bots as always-on teammates with their own computer that can work across tools, inboxes and apps, listing marketing campaigns and sales outbound among use cases.

Reuters reported that Dots lets users set custom action rules and requires explicit consent for sensitive actions such as changing passwords or permanently deleting data, and that business data is not used for training by default.

The source article notes that no performance evidence has yet been published: OpenAI has not released results on campaign output, time saved, accuracy or customer impact, and the live demonstration included glitches, as noted by Axios.
